A weekend at the Wolves Lit Fest

The Wolverhampton Literature Festival 2023 took place between 3rd and 5th February and was organised by Wolverhampton City Council.

“The festival gives talented people from across Wolverhampton and the West Midlands a platform to showcase their talents,” said organiser Ian Henery. “They are able to speak about things close to their heart and break down some of the barriers we face in today’s world. We had three days of activity. Each day there were ten hours of spoken word and performances – all completely free.”

Amongst the publishing companies supporting the Festival were The Kates Hill Press, Seren Books, Tenebrous Texts, Dream Well Writing and the Fawn Press. Wolverhampton Volunteers supported the project together with Creative Black Country and Saturday Books and Gallery.

Saturday Books’ contribution was to fill several table-tops with Local Authors books. Many of the authors themselves were present at the Festival.

Tenebrous Texts is a publisher of speculative, alternative and dark fiction, with authors based in Berlin, New Zealand, the West Midlands and elsewhere. Lore of the Saelvatici is apparently getting good traction in paperback and on Audible.

Creative Director Steven C Davis (pictured above with Laura Jane Round) was present, with Jon Hartless, author of the Poppy Orpington series and more.

Laura Jane Round is author of two poetry collections – The Coveted and Teath.

There will be a new anthology from Tenebrous Texts, Tales from the Bookshop, coming out later in the year. They also have their own festival, Raising Steam, which takes place this year on 20th–23rd July in Stoke Prior, Bromsgrove.
